What different ways do you know of marketing a business?
I’m a plumber and I’ve been set the task of coming up with 12 or more ways of marketing my business, one of which I’m going to try and then monitor every month for the next year. The idea is that if 8 fail I’m going to get pretty good at 4 ways of marketing!
So far I’ve got: web page, referrals, advertising in magazines and newspapers (this really didn’t work!) and even parking my sign written van outside the local supermarket for the full 2 hours they allow in the hope that someone will write my number down.
I’d like to hear from you if you can come up with any other ideas or anything that has proved successful for you in the past.

What is Joomla and how do you use it to allow a client to update their page?
I have installed Joomla and had a quick ook around, is it just a blog creator creating sites like blogger.com??
I thought it would somehow help you update a wep page you have made.
For example say i create some business a website "kklproperty.com" for ex. and this company get a new house on the market and they have to add the details and picture of that house onto say the front page of their site or whatever page they add it too, now being non-tech people they can’t be expected to work with html/css/js etc….out of the question.
So i was thinking what is the best way for them to update the site without contacting me, i could write a front end editor in php which woulnd’t be to hard to do which would allow them to add input some text and a picture say and the editor would add the needed html/css to the page, essentially i would be writing a CMS in php.
But i keep hearing about Joomla CMS etc….so i assumed it would be a front end editor that would allow me to edit my site i have created, but it doesn’t seem like that, it seems a stand-alone blog creator, is this right, i can hardly create a blog like site for a professional business to use….
??
Am i going to have to write a seperate php CMS for every web page i design, i though joomla was like a general CMS that could examine your pages struture and allow you to edit the code etc……. I must have the wrong idea of what Joomla is…………….???
Best of Paris in 1.5 days?
I have a business meeting in Paris on 26th March and have booked to arrive lunchtime on 24th. I have been before for work but never got to see anything, this time I want to make amends.
I would like ideas on any/all of the following: –
The 3 must do activities (do not have to be mainstream)
The best places for lunch Saturday evening and lunch and dinner on Sunday (I am happy to pay up to 50 Euros if it is good for dinner – less for lunch though. Recommendations, ideally with a web address and/or phone to book a table (if it is needed).
Recommendations for a good Hotel. I am working close to the Madeleine metro stop. However, I will stay elsewhere in the city if accessable to there if the value for money is good.

Any recommended city walking tours, particularly for Saturday evening. Is there one that tours some bars?
Any good bar recommendations.
Any rugby on?

should the internet be governed, policed, or left free?
freedom of information and file sharing built the internet, but it is big business that holds sway today. copyright law says that if you have a tangible copy (one you can touch) of any original idea, it is copyrighted. does that mean that every time you visit a web page and download (copy) its content, you are in breach of copyright?
What special skills do you have?
A shot in the dark.
Within a year I wish to kick off an Internet business. Not easy to do it all by myself.
I have been doing accounts for companies for 15 years, so I know how it works and I am just about to learn Web Design.
I have a few ideas of my own but I am open for suggestions and will be looking to create a limited liability business.

Matthew, good start. Prob need input on I.T and help with web design. Ideas how to improve the web page. I started off as a computer programmer I have good computer skills. Can do a lot on a Computer. Cannot contact you as you do not allow e-mail. E-mail me your e-mail address and will contact you, may be many months ahead though.
How do I set up a web site for my little business?
I am starting up a small business and want to advertise for customers. I want a simple web page, where people can read about what I do and see how much I charge. We did set one up, for free, but can’t find in when we type it into a search engine.
I want people to be able to type in a word, and my business comes up. I don’t have much money yet (but hopefully will when I get up and running) to pay for someone to do it for me.
So if anyone has any ideas, please let me know. I can’t wait to get working!
