Which development and server platforms should I employ for a new small business?
Hello,
I am looking to get back into programming as I really enjoyed it at uni in Cape Town and now have a few business ideas I’d like to try in the UK. I’m a bit out of the game over the last few years and I need some advice as to software. Requirements are: A. It must be legal for commercial, small business (profit) use, B. It will be used in development by no more than 4 programmers
I plan to use one server with some redundancy built in; now should I have a standalone with windows server 2008 r2 installed along with SQL Server 2008 r2 installed? Which version of each based on the above requirements as there are so many choices with vastly different prices (I will be using 64-bit)? I plan to use web forms and ASP.net 4.0 so should I use visual studio 2010 professional edition or should I be looking at premium for more than one programmer? Or in fact is there a cheaper version I can use for commercial employment given that it’s ASP.net I want and not all the application tools that vs.net offers?

What different ways do you know of marketing a business?
I’m a plumber and I’ve been set the task of coming up with 12 or more ways of marketing my business, one of which I’m going to try and then monitor every month for the next year. The idea is that if 8 fail I’m going to get pretty good at 4 ways of marketing!
So far I’ve got: web page, referrals, advertising in magazines and newspapers (this really didn’t work!) and even parking my sign written van outside the local supermarket for the full 2 hours they allow in the hope that someone will write my number down.
I’d like to hear from you if you can come up with any other ideas or anything that has proved successful for you in the past.

Best of Paris in 1.5 days?
I have a business meeting in Paris on 26th March and have booked to arrive lunchtime on 24th. I have been before for work but never got to see anything, this time I want to make amends.
I would like ideas on any/all of the following: –
The 3 must do activities (do not have to be mainstream)
The best places for lunch Saturday evening and lunch and dinner on Sunday (I am happy to pay up to 50 Euros if it is good for dinner – less for lunch though. Recommendations, ideally with a web address and/or phone to book a table (if it is needed).
Recommendations for a good Hotel. I am working close to the Madeleine metro stop. However, I will stay elsewhere in the city if accessable to there if the value for money is good.

Any recommended city walking tours, particularly for Saturday evening. Is there one that tours some bars?

Hi,
I want to start my own consultancy business for the tourism and hospitality industry with 3 other people. Although these people are more than qualified eg worked in the top hotels in the UK and abroad, have their own hotel business, worked in destination management companies and travel agencies, studied at top Swiss Hospitality Schools and UK’s most known University for Tourism and Hospitality degrees and on qualified accountant, and are internet and web design savvy, I have found on numerous general Business Consultancy services that generally the experience spans over 20 years etc. We’re all on our mid twenties and I would fear that it might not be successful due to our age, although we have the experience, drive and are passionate about the tourism and hospitality industry.

What’s the best source of finance (4m pounds) for a UK-based environmental business despite my young age (23)
I want to start an environmental business based around recycling but it is only viable at large scale. It requires 4 million pounds (GBP) start-up funding. I have found that my young age (23) is often a barrier, despite having thought everything through properly and having a god track record so far. Have the premises…. but no business idea!?
Hi, I have bought a new house which includes around 4 acres of fields, a fairly large hayshed / storage shed (in good condition, with good security) and 6 stables. I’d love to use these assets to form a small business, but beyond renting out part or all of the above I’m completely stuck for ideas re. what business of my own I could run making use of the large storage shed in particular. Is there anywhere on the web that gives good business ideas? I’ve tried a general search but only come up with rubbish. Many thanks!!!!!
